Your Reactions To The Minneapolis Bridge Collapse?
As tragic and catosptrophic this event was, I now have more faith in people as a whole, considering how many people were helping and risking their lives to save others. Just trying to find the silver lining…

The adreneline kicks in and you do what has to be done. I think the young man on the bus with the children is to be commended as he was the voice of reason that the children responded to….they needed to be told what to do and he stepped up to the plate and did just that. He was a voice they knew and trusted, not some stranger yelling instructions at them.
I think one of the silver linings, if you can call it that, is the realization that your ticket could be punched at any time any where. If you love someone, tell them, as you might not get the chance to do it again. For this reason, I keep the picture of Bailey Auman on my fridge. Bailey is the baby that the fireman was carrying out of the Murrow Building in Oklahoma City whose picture won that photographer the Pulitzer Prize. A prize he would have surely forfeited if only Bailey survived. To see that child reminds me that when I send my children out to school, I may never see them again alive. Tell them you love them. Often, even if they seem embarassed. They’ll remember it.

These tragedies will happen, and you’re right in taking what good you can from it – the people who worked, and risked their own lives, to help others are the light behind the darkness.

I think its a damn shame that governments know that structures are deficient and yet do nothing to correct the deficiencies. The injuries and loss of life that occurred as a result of the bridge collapse was not an accident, accidents are unavoidable, this catastrophe could have been avoided by correcting the deficiencies within the structure. I’m not sure what is worse, the injuries and loss of life, or the fact that absolutely no one will be held accountable for this tragedy.

It’s really scary. I am from Minneapolis and it gives me chills to know that it could have happened anytime and I could have been on that bridge. We heard a huge boom in my back yard while I was cooking dinner, having no clue what it was.
The good news that came out of this situation is that everyone has been so helpful and the huge amount of support and immediate attention has made it better for us here in Mpls. Thanks for your support!

Sorry for the people on it.
Glad I wasn’t.

Terrible. Thank God there weren’t as many fatalities as they had predicted, but my condolences go out to the families and friends of the people who did lose there lives. I read an article yesterday saying that governors in other states were “scrambling” to fix bridges with a similar structure. Scrambling? Give me a break, this should be done regularly. Its a lose lose situation. I guess we are supposed to deal with it. Sorry so negative…
